About the Class: Based on the early socialization program developed by Dr. Sophia Yin, DVM, Kitten Kindergarten is a fun learn-through-play and early socialization class. We cover the basics of kitten care and training, taking full advantage of the short but critical socialization period between 4 and 15 weeks of age to help your kitten build confidence, social skills and good manners. Owners of kittens older than 4 months may still attend without their kitten as an Observer (price remains the same). Online home school program for older kittens coming soon!

Why should we train cats?

  • To combat typical negative cat stereotypes: Kittens will not grow up aloof, mysterious, unsociable, or wild. Owners will learn to solve common cat behavior problems and form a life-long bond with their cats.
  • To make life easier for both you and your cat: To make life easier early socialization means less stress during trips to the vet and trimming nails, less chance of litter boz problems due to stress or minor upsets, and your cat will learn how to handle potentially scary situations with ease.

  • To prevent behavior problems: Less chance that your cat will scratch the furniture, bite, develop aggression, develop fears or phobias, urinate inappropriately, get into trouble or annoy you through counter conditioning and learning basic training commands.
  • To help your foster kittens get adopted: Trained, well-socialized cats and kittens show better in kennels, allowing their true confident personalities t shine instead of hiding in the back of their kennels. Well socialized kittens will grow up to be friendly and outgoing, and are less likely to be surrendered back to the shelter for behavioral problems.

Health Information

Kitten Kindergarten is located at a pet grooming salon in an isolated room that will be disinfected prior to class, but we cannot guarantee that your kitten will not get sick. Please observe your kittens regularly for any signs of illness and seek veterinary care immediately should your kitten appear ill. If your kitten is experiencing any coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, vomiting or diarrhea, please DO NOT bring your kitten to class. However, you may still attend as an observer so you can learn that week’s material and practice with your kitten at home.
