General Salon Policies

Grooming services are by appointment only, but we can often accommodate same-day appointments in-salon. Mobile grooming is typically booked 3-5 weeks in advance. We try to groom every dog in our shop from start to finish, without interruptions to ensure the comfort of your pet, so we will call you before your pet is finished so that your pet can go home as soon as they are done. In-salon, we offer a one hour grace period for pick-up after your pet’s groom, but if you need more time to come and pick up your pet, additional daycare options are available for an additional fee (excludes Playa Vista).

To ensure the health and well being of all our pet guests, all pets arriving for grooming must be In good health, and current on their vaccinations according to their age and species. Please bring your pet’s vaccination records with you to your first appointment. For all dogs and cats, a current Rabies vaccination is required for services, according to your veterinarian’s recommendations. We also recommend that all dogs be current on their Bordatella, Canine Influenza, Distemper and Parvovirus vaccinations, and cats be current on their Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIPP). We also recommend that rabbits receive their vaccine for Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV). For other small pets, please consult your veterinarian for vaccine recommendations, if applicable.

Flea Shampoo: $6-$15 (depending on weight)

We value the safety of the pets in our care, so if a customer chooses to refuse a flea shampoo, we will need to stop the groom and send the dog home. A customer will only be charged for services that were completed as well as a salon sanitation fee that can range from $30-130

Tick Removal: for every tick will be a $1 charge

For the safety of the dog, we cannot remove more than 15 ticks off a dog at a time. The groom will be stopped and the dog will be referred to the vet for proper treatment

Parasites/ Contagious Diseases

If a dog has parasites or other contagious diseases, depending on the severity, the groomer has the right to refuse service until a vet has cleared the pet for grooming. If parasites are found during the groom, the customer will be contacted immediately and be made aware of sanitation fee to ensure full and complete safety of all pets in the facility. The fee ranges from $10-30. It is up to the groomer to decide the price charged.

To ensure safety for all pets, we DO NOT service pets with ring worm and require 2 NEGATIVE SKIN TESTS prior to booking an appointment. If ring worm were to be found on a pet while grooming. The groom will be stopped IMMEDIATELY and the customer will be charged a $300 sanitation fee in order to close the salon and properly sanitize the whole salon.

Depending on the severity, your dog may be required to see a veterinarian for treatment before grooming services are rendered.

Dog Demat Fees

A 15 minute brush out is automatically included in the initial grooming price.

If the dog has light knotting that result in brushing for longer then the 15 minutes, the fees are as follows: in salon $12.50 every 15 minutes / for mobile $17.50 every 15 minutes up to 45 minutes. For the safety of your dog we do NOT brush for LONGER THAN 1 HOUR in one service. These fees will be made aware to the owner at drop off.

If there is matting close to the skin, that will be inhumane to brush from the dog, the groomer is only allowed to clipper the dog. In the case of severe matting/pelting, our fees are $50-$70 depending on weight.

At the groomers discretion and a managers approval we have the right to refuse a service that will result in inhumane grooming for the dog.

Dog Handling Fees

In the event that a dog is struggling with a service, a handling fee may be necessary in order to get the service done under the decision of the customer. If a groomer notices signs of stress or intolerance due to a service being done, the customer will be contacted immediately and ONLY will the service be continued if allowed by the customer. If the service is taking longer due to the stress of the dog and/or another groomer needs to step in to help with the service, an additional fee will be added. The fees range from $10-$30 depending on the severity of the situation and its up to the groomer to decide the additional costs.

At any time the customer is allowed to decline a service to be done to their dog, excluding bathing and proper brushing. However, the groom will still be charged in full price. The groomer has the right to decline performing a service for a dog if the groomer deems the reaction the dog has to the service as unsafe.

Service Fees (Cats)

Cat Fleas, Diseases & Parasites

If fleas or parasites are found on your cat, a flea bath is required and will be automatically added to your cat’s groom. We will make every attempt to notify you in the event that fleas are found. The cost for a cat flea bath is $10. Pease be advised that flea shampoo does not prevent re-infestation of the fleas, it only eliminates the fleas that are currently on your cat, so without a monthly topical or oral flea treatment, re-infestation is possible. We also recommend that you clean and flea-treat your home and yard as well to eliminate the fleas at the source.

We value the safety of all of the pets in our care, so if live fleas are found on your pet and a flea bath is refused, the groom will be terminated and the cat will be sent home immediately. A Salon Flea Sanitation Fee of $130 will then be applied to your cat’s groom to cover the expense of deep cleaning and flea bombing our salon.

If a cat shows signs of external or internal parasites or a contagious disease, the groomer has the right to refuse service until a vet has cleared the cat for grooming. If parasites are found during the groom, the customer will be contacted immediately and be notified of the situation. If parasites are found, a Sanitation Fee of $10-$30 may be added for additional cleaning & disinfecting costs.

To ensure safety for all pets, we DO NOT service pets with ringworm and require TWO (2)  NEGATIVE SKIN TESTS, administered one month apart by a veterinarian, prior to booking an appointment. If signs of ringworm are found on a cat during the groom, all services will be stopped IMMEDIATELY and the cat will be sent home. A $300 Salon Deep Sanitation Fee will be added to the groom in order to cancel the remainder of our appointments for the day, close the salon and thoroughly disinfect the entire facility to prevent the spread of highly contagious fungal spores.

Cat De Matting

A 15 minute brush out is automatically included in each of our base grooming packages. If the cat has light knotting that takes longer than 15 minutes to remove, the charge will be $10 per 10 minutes. The groomer will assess your cat at drop off and alert you to any additional fees they may find initially, but please keep your phone nearby in the event additional items are found once the groom has started so we can notify you.

For the safety of your cat we are unable to brush or de-mat for LONGER THAN 1 HOUR per day. If your cat requires additional mat removal, you will need to return no more than 7 days after your cat’s initial groom to continue removing mats, at the salon’s standard mat removal rate or $10 per 10 minutes. After 7 days, the cat will need to be re-bathed and you will be charged again for the bath and brush package, plus mat removal fees.

Mats that are close to the skin MUST be shaved out; there is no possible safe alternative. In the event of severe skin-tight matting (pelting) that covers 40% of the body or more, a Pelt Removal Fee of $75 will be added to your cat’s groom. This fee will double EACH TIME your cat returns pelted, up to $600, so keeping your cat on a regular grooming schedule is strongly encouraged to prevent your cat from matting/pelting and to avoid incurring unnecessary fees. This policy is strictly enforced due to the life-threatening severity that full body pelting inflicts on cats, as well as the significant increase in time and delicate work it will take the groomer and assistant to remove it safely. This is a high-risk procedure and requires a high level of skill to complete, and many breaks are often required to keep the cat calm while the pelt is removed. Pelt removal may even need to be broken up into several sessions, depending on your cat’s age, health and level of discomfort that they are able to tolerate. In the event your cat needs to return over multiple sessions for pelt removal, you will be charged only for the amount of mat removal time your cat can tolerate each visit.

Cat Handling Fees

Cats are at a much higher risk of injury during grooming than dogs, so the health and safety of your cat is our shop’s most important priority. In the event that a cat is struggling with a service, a handling fee for the additional time required to complete the service(s) safely may be necessary. If a groomer notices signs of stress or the cat is unable to tolerate a service(s) being done, the customer will be contacted immediately to discuss the safest course of action. If the customer cannot be reached, the groomer will decide the best course of action, which may include modifying the service, bringing in a second handler (for an additional fee), or skipping the service entirely. In the event of severe stress or aggression, the groom may be terminated entirely and the customer will only be charged for the services that were able to be completed. If the service is taking longer due to stress and/or another groomer needs to step in to help with the service, an additional fee will be added. Handling fees range from $10-$30 and are determined by the severity of the situation, additional time required to complete the groom, and/or the length of time that a second handler is needed to complete the service(s) safely.

The customer is allowed to decline any service that they feel is not in the best interest of their cat, however the groom price will remain the same. The groomer has the right to decline performing a service on a cat if the groomer determines that the cat is unable to tolerate the service or the service cannot be performed safely for either the cat and/or the groomer.

SEVERE MATTING DISCLAIMER (all pets)

It is often not possible for the groomer to know what may be lurking underneath severe matting or pelting until the process of shaving it off has begun. Common things we find underneath mats/pelts are bruising, scarring, wounds, parasites, infection, pain, redness, irritation, swelling, and bald patches where the hair has been pulled from the follicle by the tightening mats. Fur Town is not responsible for any wounds, injuries, infections, irritation, etc caused by the presence of matting on the skin. Allowing mats or pelts to form on the skin, as well as the removal process, can pose certain health risks for your pet, which can include nicks, cuts, scrapes, bruising, skin irritation, dermatitis, skin irritation or infection, thinning or loss of hair, patchy re-growth, coat color or texture change, joint or muscle tenderness, muscle wasting, urine scalding, and more.

Any veterinary treatment that may be needed as a result of the presence of matting or pelting, or that results from the mat/pelt removal process is solely the responsibility of the owner.
