ACADEMY GROOMING SCHEDULE
The students are in class for 3 months total, so appointment availability is as follows:
Month 1: Baths Only
Month 2: Tidy Trims & Haircuts
Month 3: Haircuts Only
Depending on where the students are at in their class, we may not be able to accommodate haircut dogs during bath month, or bath-only dogs during haircut month, etc. If your dog requires a service that the students are not able to perform at that time, we recommend booking your appointment with a Certified Groomer instead, or waiting until the students are at the appropriate stage in their course to accommodate your needs. Thank you!
Please read entire page before submitting request. Thank you!
Discounted Student Dog Grooming
(Salon Only)
Receive up to 50% Off!
Fur Town is home to California’s first State Approved vocational school for pet grooming: West Coast Grooming Academy! Do you want to save money on your pet’s groom while helping our students learn? If your dog is friendly and easy to handle, your dog may be eligible for our student grooming program! Receive up to 50% off your dog’s base grooming package when you request a student groomer (add-ons and service fees not included). Students are supervised by a WCGA approved Instructor during their class.
Student grooming is offered In-Salon only, at our Arcadia, La Verne or Playa Vista locations. Student grooming appointments are not available on our Mobile Grooming vans or for cat grooming services.
When making your in-salon appointment, please be sure to request a Student Groomer to ensure that you receive the Student pricing, otherwise your appointment will be scheduled with a Certified Groomer at the regular price (excludes Playa Vista).
Student grooming appointments are available as follows:
Arcadia: 10:00am or 1:00pm Monday-Thursday
La Verne: 10:00am or 1:00pm Monday-Thursday (starting in June 2022)
Playa Vista: 9:00am or 1:00pm Tuesday-Sunday
If you need a different time other than the appointments times listed above, Certified Groomers are available at most locations to accommodate your scheduling needs. Please be advised that Student appointments may take up to 2-4 hours, so if you are in a hurry, we recommend booking your appointment that day with a Certified Groomer (if available) instead, or postponing your appointment to a later date.
How Do I Apply?
Use our Online Academy Request Form or call our salon directly to schedule an appointment with a Student Groomer at the location of your choice. Your dog’s first appointment with us will be an assessment groom to see if they are eligible for the Student Grooming program. You will be quoted the salon’s regular price for their first appointment, in the event your pet is ineligible for the students and your dog’s groom must be completed by a Certified Groomer or Instructor instead. If your dog passes their assessment and is accepted into the program, they will be eligible to receive up to 50% off their base grooming packages from the day of their assessment going forward.
Student Grooming Program Policies
CANCELLATIONS/NO SHOWS/LATE ARRIVALS: Student grooming dogs must arrive on time for their appointment with student’s class since the students are unable to learn if their scheduled dogs are not there. Dogs who frequently arrive late, cancel same-day, or no-show will be dismissed from the program and will not be able to re-book with the Academy. We understand that life happens, so if you experience a scheduling issue, please give us a call as soon as possible to avoid being dropped from the program. If your pet has been dismissed from the program, they may re-apply after 3 successful Certified Groomer appointments without incident.
BEHAVIOR: Dogs who are too aggressive, too wiggly/difficult, too overly stressed/fearful to be done safely by a student may need to have parts of their groom modified, or may require a Certified Groomer or Instructor to complete their groom safely. Dogs who require a Certified Groomer or Instructor to take over their groom are not eligible to receive student pricing that day. However, if your dog’s behavior improves, your dog may return for a re-assessment.
MATTING/FLEAS: Pets who arrive to their appointments too severely matted or flea infested may require a Certified Groomer to correct their skin & coat safely. In the event your pet requires a Certified Groomer, your pet will be charged the salon’s standard rate for that day’s visit. If your pet has been previously been approved for Student Grooming, you may continue to book future grooms with the students without needing to reapply as long as your pet returns every 4-6 weeks to prevent your pet from becoming severely matted again.
HEALTH: Please note that we are unable to accept pets who are not current on their Rabies vaccination, or who appear ill or injured at the time of their appointment.
ELIGIBILITY: Please be advised that pets who have been approved for student grooming may become ineligible at any time if their health, behavior or condition changes over time and the Academy’s Instructor determines they are no longer eligible.
If your pet is not approved for Student Grooming, you may always reapply again a later date, depending on the Instructor’s recommendations provided at pick-up. Some pets may require more training or de-sensitization to certain aspects of the groom, or may need to seek veterinary care before they are approved. If you have any questions regarding your pet’s eligibility status, please do not hesitate to speak with the Academy Instructor at pick-up or call us.
